Direct Copper Cylinders

Direct hot water cylinders were originally designed to be used in conjunction with solid fuel appliances and copper back boilers. Water from the cylinder was heated as it passed through a copper back boiler then returned to the cylinder.

Today DIRECT hot water cylinders tend to use electrical immersion heaters to warm their contents. Economy 7 versions are available designed to reap the benefit of off-peak cheap rate electricity tariffs.

Direct Copper Cylinders

Still available however for the replacement market these cylinders can be specified with boiler connections either as high flow or low flow and are manufactured in accordance with the new British Standard, BS 1566-1: 2002. They also comply with the new Part L Building Regulations.

Please note: Modern Direct cylinders are supplied with a single immersion heater boss (heater is extra). However, those designed for use on economy tariffs will usually have two heater bosses (one for off-peak heater, the other for the boost heater - as shown). For Economy 7 models click here. Economy 7 cylinders have a thicker insulating jacket for super-low standing heat loss.
