There are two types of fire - Fire Smouldering and Fast Flaming
Sources of smouldering fires may include: Cigarettes burning in furniture or bedding
Sources of flaming fires may include: Paper burning in a waste basket, Kitchen grease fire such as a chip pan
Photoelectric alarms respond faster to smouldering fires which produce large smoke particles compared to flames and heat from flaming fires
For best protection homes should have both types of smoke alarm
It's IMPORTANT to note: ALL Smoke Alarms are designed to detect particles of smoke REGARDLESS of their type of sensing technology
